A Week In The Life

TAP is a year-long program designed for young adults who are ready to continue building toward meaningful, independent lives. Participants commit to a minimum of 12 months, allowing for consistency, growth, and the development of lasting skills.

The program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a home base in Western Springs. Transportation options are flexible—participants may drive themselves, be dropped off and picked up by a parent, or utilize alternative arrangements. For those taking the Metra to the Western Springs stop, participants may walk to the home or be picked up at the station.

Independence looks different for every individual, and this program is designed to reflect that. While each participant’s experience is personalized based on their goals and current skill level, the program as a whole focuses on fostering autonomy, executive functioning, and professional readiness. Key areas of development include self-advocacy and understanding accommodations, financial literacy (budgeting and banking), career exploration and job-related social skills, independent living skills (such as transportation and household management), and post-secondary planning.

Each week, participants will engage in real-life skill-building through meal planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation. A strong emphasis is placed on helping each individual find purpose—whether through employment or volunteer work. Time spent in the community is a vital component of the program, providing structure, meaning, and real-world application of skills.

In addition, participants will take part in regular group outings, with input from the group to ensure experiences are engaging and meaningful. These outings provide opportunities to build social connections, try new activities, and explore all that Chicago and the surrounding communities have to offer.

Physical health is also a priority. Regular exercise will be incorporated into the weekly routine to support overall well-being, energy, and a healthy lifestyle.

Each day, our focus is on helping young adults TAP into their strengths and create a pathway toward a bright, independent future.
